enervating seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer. The founder of Apple Inc and tech visionary is being mourned worldwide by millions whose lives he uniquely touched. He was just 56.
A gizmo-God to geeks and gearheads, but also worshipped by Luddites for introducing beautiful form, elegant function and simplicity to workday electronics, Jobs died peacefully surrounded by his family, including his wife of 20 years and three children.
Presidents, CEOs and other luminaries sent in glowing tributes, but a timeless sentiment came from an Applehead who tweeted, “Life is smoother since we can touch instead of push.”
It was a reference to the feather-light, touch-driven operating process Jobs introduced that changed the look and feel of today’s devices, brought aesthetics to electronics, and made it accessible to all. Actually I was explaining how to use Blocking of Camera to get the kind of effect seen in the above video. My team kind of not getting the whole idea, I needed to come in front of the camera and do the anchor/reporter part. As it was a practice session, I didn't wear any mic and used the on-camera gun mic therefore there is an obvious audio problem. To bring the final Visual Effect I needed to edit the rushes,We did the edit on Apple Final Cut Pro with a lot of use of Garbage Matte for the Compositing part. Thank GOD it was just a simple Composite, otherwise we could have needed Compositing Application like Adobe After Effect or Apple Shake or Nuke. I knew this so we didn't move the camera at all during the shooting.

NEWSROOM AUTOMATION IN INDIA

The term newsroom system includes all of those activities that are expected to be available on the journalist's desktop. The list of functions expected from the newsroom system includes planning/diary/assignments; communications (messaging, mail), web browsing and research; news agency reception, sorting and alerts; ingest scheduling and management; encoding/trans-coding; cataloging and metadata creation; search engine, low-resolution proxy browsing, shot-listing and editing; voiceover recording; high-resolution conforming and finishing; video server management; scriptwriting; running order creation; script and show timing; graphics creation; prompting; captioning; subtitling; on-air play out automation; web and DVD authoring and publishing; archiving (short-, medium- and long-term) of media and text; digital asset management.

The scope of traditionally known newsroom computer systems (NRCS) such as Avid's iNEWS and the Associated Press' (AP) ENPS based on core technology originally conceived for a text-only era are still operational and still being sold. Integration potential has replaced pure functionality as the most desirable and necessary attribute of these systems and continuous efforts has been expended by both companies to provide, one way or the other, additional capabilities. Avid promotes a one-stop shop in which iNews is part of a wider infrastructure including Avid editing systems and Unity. Their success has made it difficult for competitors to break into the market. Dalet, Octopus, VSN and Autocue among others all offer highly functional broadcast NRCS systems with numerous strong points and, indeed, satisfied customers. But none has achieved the critical mass of iNews and ENPS. There are some broadcasters who have decided to go it alone and develop their own systems but these systems are few and none has yet been installed outside its own organization.

In India 483 channels are currently beemed. Last year four new national news channels namely UTVnews, Voice of India, 9X, and E-24 by BAG films hit the market but only UTVnews seems to have survived. 9X has been hived off to Nayi Duniya. Voice of India too is looking for investors. We too have nicknames for each other, but we utter them with the right intention.”

Terror kills more in Northeast than in J&K

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__w2eVEG96Ac/SWJ2-1A-M7I/AAAAAAAAAxM/AUHZAaNlpMU/s400/getimage.dll.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287919734241506226" />
New Delhi: The serial blasts in Guwahati on New Year’s Day were a chilling reminder to the country of a forgotten but deadly war being fought in the Brahmaputra valley and the surrounding hills.
In the year just gone by, over a thousand persons were killed in terrorist related violence in the seven states of the northeast. The bulk of these deaths occurred in just two states — Assam and Manipur. Assam reported 372 fatalities while the death toll in Manipur was just shy of 500, second only to Kashmir, which recorded 539 deaths.
While the country has been preoccupied with Kashmir and escalating terrorist violence elsewhere, separatist violence in northeast has crept up. Data from the South Asian Terrorism Portal (SATP) shows that the total number of deaths in this region has increased from 640 in 2006 to 1057 in 2008.
These figures include a steadily increasing number of fatalities among the separatists themselves, but there is a parallel rise in deaths of innocent civilians as the terrorists take recourse to bombings like the one in Guwahati on Thursday.
The number of terrorists killed has increased from 317 in 2006 to 501 in 2007 and further to 612 in 2008. But the civilian death toll too has mounted from 231 in 2006 to 405 in 2008. Casualties among security forces operating in the region have declined drastically from 92 in 2006 to 40 in 2008. An estimated 2 lakh persons are reported to be internally displaced due to ethnic strife.
Northeast is no stranger to insurgencies with all its seven states having witnessed some form of armed separatism over the last six decades. In the 15 years since 1994, an estimated 16,271 persons have been killed in this volatile region.
A combination of persistent economic backwardness and the presence of several dozen ethnic groups has made this region a crucible of identity politics. Nearly 20% of the 50 million people of the region are below the poverty line. Of the 635 tribal groups identified by the Anthropological Survey of India, 213 reside in the northeast.
Some states have a very low or passive level of separatist activity like Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. In Mizoram, the insurgency ended in 1986 after the accord between the Union government and the Mizo National Front led by Laldenga. Meghalaya too has a relatively lower and declining level of terrorist activity although a number of separatist groups are active in extortion and other criminal activities. Tripura, which till a decade back was a hotbed of terrorist actions, appears to have overcome the menace through a determined political effort.
But in three states — Assam, Manipur and Nagaland — separatist violence continues with an incendiary mix of ethnic strife. While terrorist actions in Assam still get attention, Manipur, with the second highest number of terrorist related deaths after Kashmir, has remained below the national radar. All 59 police stations in the state have reported terrorist activities, and 32 of them have been placed in the high violence category.
SATP estimates that there are at least 15 major militant groups with approximately 10,000 cadre active in the state. The desperate situation is highlighted by the fact that Manipur continues to remain classified as a disturbed area since the 1970s.
It has a higher police-topopulation ratio than the national average and yet there is no end to violence.
Assam, the biggest state in the northeast, has been the hunting ground of Ulfa despite several army operations against it, including the 2005 sweep in sanctuaries in the Bhutanese foothills.
Decades of Ulfa violence has spawned rival outfits from amongst plains tribals and Muslims, leading to an ever escalating spiral of violence on innocent civilians of every community. Current estimates put active terrorist groups at 12, while inactive groups number over 20. Recent reports suggest that Ulfa has also tied up with some factions of Naga separatist groups, operating in Nagaland and Manipur.

Courtesy: TOI(05-01-08) By-Subodh Varma TIMES INSIGHT GROUP

Our netas are us

The SMSs are doing the rounds: We’ve dealt with the men who came in boats, now we should deal with the men who came in with votes; let’s hope Chidambaram can bring down terrorism the way he’s brought down the stock market. Never before has the Indian political class as a whole been put so vehemently in the dock by the citizenry as after the Mumbai terror attack. The anger and scorn directed at our politicians is inevitable and justified; there is a profound sense of betrayal by a political leadership that, obsessed with its own survival and the perpetuation of its own agenda, seems hell-bent on delivering the rest of us into the hands of our mortal enemies through gross and criminal negligence.
The token resignation of some netas — some effected in the face of shameless reluctance to demit office — will do nothing to assuage public anger which is only too aware that those shown the door will be replaced by Box and Cox clones of the same genetic stripe: 100 per cent promise, zero per cent performance. Indeed, Politico Indicus remains unregenerate.
Snubbed by the father of the NSG commando killed in action, the Kerala CM has shown unretracted fangs by retorting that “even a dog would not have visited the Unnikrishnan house had it not been that of a martyr” (many would say it’s more the pity that it had to be the commando and not the CM who was martyred). Not to be outdone in the ‘Most Tasteless Remark of the Year’ stakes, BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has castigated women “with lipstick and powder on their face” for holding peaceful demonstrations against the signal failure of our politicians to protect citizens from terror.
Our political class as a whole is certainly condemnable: insufferably arrogant, flagrantly self-serving and utterly derelict in fulfilling its most basic duties and responsibilities to those who have voted it into existence. Which is us. And there lies the rub. In a democracy — even a deeply flawed democracy likes ours where the ballot box should be renamed the bribery box — we are as responsible for our political leaders as they are supposed to be for us — but are not, as tragic evidence only too clearly shows.
Why is it that India can produce world-class scientists, doctors, artistes, philosophers, scholars, soldiers (whose heroism all too often is sacrificed on the altar of political expediency and callousness) but a generic political class which can only be described as third-rate, if that? Could it be because while other professions demand skills and dedication that reflect what might be called our highest common denominator, the profession of politics reflects our lowest common denominator?
In a democracy, politicians are what we, the people, choose to make of them. If our politicians are corrupt and drunk on the insolence of power is it is not because, wittingly or unwittingly, we have colluded in making them what they are, first by electing them to power, and then seeking boons from them as one would from an all-powerful deity?
We are complicit in the moral destitution that infests our politics. We will vote not for the most deserving, or efficient, or honest, of candidates but for the one who, for reasons of caste or other considerations, is the most likely to grant us favours in the form of jobs, reservations, government contracts, string-pulling, out-of-turn LPG connections, attendance with much fanfare and security bandobast at our family weddings or other functions which will bestow great cachet and clout on us vis-a-vis our neighbours.
If our politicians are the parasitic monsters that we accuse them of being, it’s because we sycophants have helped to make them that way. By all means decry the ugly and unacceptable face of Indian politics. But let’s realise that it’s the same face we see in the mirror every morning.

Courtesy: Second Opinion by Jug Suraiya, TOI-Delhi,3rd Dec'08

People Do Matter

Ministers forced to resign as government begins damage control

Shivraj Patil’s resignation as home minister was inevitable in the aftermath of the bloodbath in Mumbai but it may be too late for comfort. However, it is welcome that the prime minister took the call on Patil finally. His ineptitude was evident not just in the rise in terror attacks during his tenure in the home ministry but also in his inability to communicate the government’s will to crack down effectively on terrorism. It was said that Patil enjoyed the confidence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and that allowed him an extended tenure in government. The resignation came in only after Sonia woke up to the damage he was causing the government. Public opinion, she may have recognised, had turned irrevocably against the loyalist.
Public opinion has also forced the Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and home minister R R Patil to resign. Deshmukh and Patil have exposed themselves as inept administrators and insensitive people. The CM’s visit to the Taj Mahal hotel with his actor son and a noted Bollywood director made the inspection tour almost look like a location scout for a film shoot. R R Patil’s remark that these things happen in a big city was irresponsible and unbecoming of a public official. These resignations are most welcome because public anger against inefficient and callous administrators is at a peak, and rightly so. Public officials have to be accountable to citizens and appear to be so. The best the government can do now is to fix accountability on public officials who have failed in their duty. Let the message go out that the government is willing to listen and ready to set its house in order. People’s faith in a democracy is reaffirmed and enhanced when elected officials engage with their views.
Shivraj Patil’s replacement, P Chidambaram, has his task cut out in the home ministry. The security apparatus has a complex architecture and repairing it is a long haul. The change had to begin at the top, with the home minister. But the top brass of the ministry and various intelligence agencies are no less culpable than the minister in failing the country. The new minister must study the situation and, if necessary, replace a few incumbents. However, the main task before Chidambaram is to establish norms of institutional accountability and cooperation among various agencies.
There were signals from Indian and foreign intelligence, especially the US, that terrorists would target Mumbai. The home minister must stop turf tussles in the security bureaucracy and ensure a free flow of information among various agencies. A nationwide information base with real access to security agencies should help. A political consensus has emerged on the long-pending demand for a federal agency to tackle crime. The government should fast-track the decision. The absence of a clear command structure allows different wings of the security establishment to shift blame. We wish Chidambaram good luck. He’ll need it.

Courtsey:- Editorial, TOI-Delhi, 12th Dec' 08

‘How many titles for a Khel Ratna?’

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: undefinedpx; height: undefinedpx;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/__w2eVEG96Ac/STT1KmEIZ6I/AAAAAAAAAw0/xrtUdaY2SoA/s400/getimage.dll.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275110625923065762" />
New Delhi: A four-time world champion, MC Mary Kom has never been considered worthy for Khel Ratna and disturbed by the apathy, the Manipuri — arguably world’s most successful woman boxer — is asking what more she needs to do to get the country’s highest sporting honour.
“I have won the World Championship four times on the trot. Dhoni gets a Khel Ratna for winning just one World Cup, I fail to understand why am I being ignored then. How can anybody expect an athlete to stay motivated if he or she is ignored like this?” Mary Kom said in an interview on Monday.
The pin weight pugilist, who clinched a fourth world title in the fifth edition of the event in Ningbo City, China, managed the feat despite being away from the ring for two years after becoming a mother. Hurt at being ignored twice for the award, Mary Kom says even more disturbing than that is the sheer ignorance about the sport in which she competes. “Last year, when my name was recommended by the federation, I had been shortlisted along with Dhoni but (Arjuna awards selection committee chairman) Milkha Singh struck off my name saying that he did not know which sport I competed in. That hurt me terribly,” she revealed.
“I want to ask him today, how many more titles do I have to win for him and for the country to believe that I deserve the honour?” she asked. “Don’t give me the award if you think I am not worthy but please don’t insult me with statements like that. It angers me. People should be encouraging but they are not and I have accepted it as part of life,” she said.
The Indian Boxing Federation says it would push for her case yet again next year and is confident of becoming third time lucky. “We will once again recommend her. Every time, she has been sidelined. She is special and her achievements are unparalleled,” IBF general secretary PKM Raja said.
Mary Kom, meanwhile, is busy chalking out her plans for future and is keeping her fingers crossed for women’s boxing inclusion in the 2010 Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. “I am looking forward to training hard now and hope that women’s boxing is included in the 2010 Asian and Commonwealth Games so that I can add to the medals that I have won. My ultimate dream is to represent the country in the Olympic Games and hopefully that dream would realise in London 2012,” she said.
Attending camps and tournaments means staying away from her young family but Mary Kom says she can bank on her husband’s support to make sure that her twin boys are not neglected. “It feels terrible to leave the kids behind but my husband has made sure that I don’t have to worry about my boys,” she said. Media came into existence in 1780 with the introduction of a newspaper namely ‘The Bengal Gazette’ and since then it has matured leaps and bounds. It has been playing a very important role in shaping human minds.

Role of media
Media plays a crucial role in shaping a healthy democracy. It is the backbone of a democracy. Media makes us aware of various social, political and economical activities happening around the world. It is like a mirror, which shows us or strives to show us the bare truth and harsh realities of life.

The media has undoubtedly evolved and become more active over the years. It is the media only who reminds politicians about their unfulfilled promises at the time of elections. T.V news channels’ excessive coverage during elections helps people, especially illiterates, in electing the right person to the power. This reminder compels politicians to be upto their promises in order to remain in power.

Television and radio have made a significant achievement in educating rural illiterate masses in making them aware of all the events in their language. Coverage of exploitative malpractices of village heads and moneylenders has helped in taking stringent actions against them by attracting government’s attention.

The media also exposes loopholes in the democratic system, which ultimately helps government in filling the vacuums of loopholes and making a system more accountable, responsive and citizen-friendly. A democracy without media is like a vehicle without wheels.

In the age of information technology we are bombarded with information. We get the pulse of the world events with just a click of a mouse. The flow of information has increased manifolds. The perfect blend of technology and human resources (journalist) has not left a single stone unturned in unearthing rampant corruption in politics and society. We all are well aware of what tehelka did. Thanks to technology that has brought a kind of revolution in journalism.

Impact of media

The impact of media is really noteworthy. Excessive coverage or hype of sensitive news has led to communal riots at times. The illiterates are more prone to provocations than the literates. Constant repetition of the news, especially sensational news, breeds apathy and insensitivity. For instance, In Dhananjoy Chatterjee case, the overloaded hype led to death of quite a few children who imitated the hanging procedure which was repeatedly shown in most of the T.V. news channels. There is a plethora of such negative impacts. Media should take utmost care in airing or publishing such sensational news.

Commercialization has created a stiff competition in media. In order to outdo each other print media has often gone one step further in publishing articles, cover stories, etc. on sex.
Media experts say this is one of the means of attracting readers who are glued to T.V. news channels, which have cropped up swiftly in a recent past and they believe this is a cheap form of journalism.

Conclusion

No one is perfect in this world and so is the media. It’s not about degrading the media, rather there is still a lot of scope for improvement by which media can raise upto the aspirations of the people for which it is meant. We cannot think of a democracy without active and neutral media. Media is like a watchdog in a democracy that keeps government active. From being just an informer it has become an integral part of our daily lives. With the passage of time it has become a more matured and a more responsible entity. The present media revolution has helped people in making an informed decisions and this has led to beginning of a new era in a democracy.

THE LOST WORLD!!

1st IAAN ALUMNI PARTY

Seeing the undigestable conditions in Manipur, most of the people in and outside Manipur want to do something for the betterment of Manipur. But the ground reality is that we could rather do something good for the development of the state.

It's not the politicians who are corrupt, it's not the police force that's corrupt, it's not the insurgent groups who are misleading or misguiding others....

It's the people, It's the PSYCHOGRAPHY of the people there, here and everywhere.

DEVELOPMENT has many aspects and scopes. It doesn't confine only to ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. We have all the money but we are not educated.

Even if we are educated we cant write an application in English (English is not the height of development but of course an indicator of qualitative development in education).

Even though if we are competent enough, our way of thinking, behaviour, attitude towards the wolrd, knowledge, prejudices, beliefs and perceptibilty are very limited.

In other words we can say we lack the PSYCHIC MOBILITY.

We dont really think out of the box. We treat people very indifferently.

That's the reason why, today Manipuri tribes dont think they are Manipuris, to take an example. They want to associate with some other states or they dont have a brotherly feeling for other castes in manipur.

WE HAVE TO MIND OUR BLOODY ATTITUDES. We should learn how to respect and honour people irrespective of their castes or religions.

We should stop cursing people. This can be possible only when we learn to cultivate and inculcate a Psychic mobilty- a tendency to emphathise and implement in our outlook.

All in all, it's the individual who has to change or develop himself or herself first.

Let's not try to change the system or society.

LET'S BECOME A CHANGE IN THE SYSTEM OR SOCIETY BY CHANGING OURSELVES. AND THATS THE ULTIMATE WAY TO THINK ABOUT MANIPURIS,MANIPUR AND ITS DEVELOPMENT IRRESPECTIVE OF WHERE YOU ARE STAYING.

But at times we are confrontated with questions like "When your chakhao(stomach) is empty can you think of education/society or whatever?" When our Chakhao(stomach) is empty, we wont be able to think about Education,society...Very Right.

But even when our Chakhao is full, we hardly do anything sensible. Instead we engage ourselves in Leibung Phamba(sitting together in common place and talking about the nitty-gritty of other people) or rather we voluntarily talk about bad of other people (Waathi Ngangba).

It doesnt matter where we are staying. Whether we are in Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore.....we seem to be follwing the same aged-old traditions. We dont have time to think about ourselves.

What I'm trying to say is that we have to constatntly check, review, assess ourselves and make changes if necessary so that we can improve and develop the quality of the personailty we have in ourselves. Which is known as Human Resource.

Every individual is a human resource or part of it.

In order to have a better MANIPUR, we have to improve the quality of each and everyone, which is difficult if not possible. But to improve yourself is totally dependent on you.

And we all need a dose of psychic mobilty.

How to reach me?

Hi Friends

As the header of this site has already mentioned or indicated that my name is or, must be Raj. Yes I am Raj and Nongthombam is my family name i.e. surname. I also have or, want to live, a virtual live(a second life) which is effected only through Internet. It is a system that works to advance the cause of the global market and promote commercial values, while denigrating journalism and culture not conducive to the immediate bottom line or long-run corporate interests. It is a disaster for anything but the most superficial notion of democracy--a democracy where, to paraphrase John Jay's maxim, those who own the world ought to govern it.

The global commercial system is a very recent development. Until the 1980s, media systems were generally national in scope. While there have been imports of books, films, music and TV shows for decades, the basic broadcasting systems and newspaper industries were domestically owned and regulated. Beginning in the 1980s, pressure from the IMF, World Bank and U.S. government to deregulate and privatize media and communication systems coincided with new satellite and digital technologies, resulting in the rise of transnational media giants.

How quickly has the global media system emerged? The two largest media firms in the world, Time Warner and Disney, generated around 15 percent of their income outside of the United States in 1990. By 1997, that figure was in the 30 percent-35 percent range. Both firms expect to do a majority of their business abroad at some point in the next decade.

The global media system is now dominated by a first tier of nine giant firms. The five largest are Time Warner (1997 sales: $24 billion), Disney ($22 billion), Bertelsmann ($15 billion), Viacom ($13 billion), and Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation ($11 billion). Besides needing global scope to compete, the rules of thumb for global media giants are twofold: First, get bigger so you dominate markets and your competition can't buy you out. Firms like Disney and Time Warner have almost tripled in size this decade.

Second, have interests in numerous media industries, such as film production, book publishing, music, TV channels and networks, retail stores, amusement parks, magazines, newspapers and the like. The profit whole for the global media giant can be vastly greater than the sum of the media parts. A film, for example, should also generate a soundtrack, a book, and merchandise, and possibly spin-off TV shows, CD-ROMs, video games and amusement park rides. Firms that do not have conglomerated media holdings simply cannot compete in this market.

The first tier is rounded out by TCI, the largest U.S. cable company that also has U.S. and global media holdings in scores of ventures too numerous to mention. The other three first-tier global media firms are all part of much larger industrial corporate powerhouses: General Electric (1997 sales: $80 billion), owner of NBC; Sony (1997 sales: $48 billion), owner of Columbia & TriStar Pictures and major recording interests; and Seagram (1997 sales: $14 billion), owner of Universal film and music interests. The media holdings of these last four firms do between $6 billion and $9 billion in business per year. While they are not as diverse as the media holdings of the first five global media giants, these four firms have global distribution and production in the areas where they compete. And firms like Sony and GE have the resources to make deals to get a lot bigger very quickly if they so desire.

Behind these firms is a second tier of some three or four dozen media firms that do between $1 billion and $8 billion per year in media-related business. These firms tend to have national or regional strongholds or to specialize in global niche markets. About one-half of them come from North America, including the likes of CBS, the New York Times Co., Hearst, Comcast and Gannett. Most of the rest come from Europe, with a handful based in East Asia and Latin America.

In short, the overwhelming majority (in revenue terms) of the world's film production, TV show production, cable channel ownership, cable and satellite system ownership, book publishing, magazine publishing and music production is provided by these 50 or so firms, and the first nine firms thoroughly dominate many of these sectors. By any standard of democracy, such a concentration of media power is troubling, if not unacceptable.

But that hardly explains how concentrated and uncompetitive this global media power actually is. In addition, these firms are all actively engaged in equity joint ventures where they share ownership of concerns with their "competitors" so as to reduce competition and risk. Each of the nine first-tier media giants, for example, has joint ventures with, on average, two-thirds of the other eight first-tier media giants. And the second tier is every bit as aggressive about making joint ventures.

We are the world
In some ways, the emerging global commercial media system is not an entirely negative proposition. It occasionally promotes anti-racist, anti-sexist or anti-authoritarian messages that can be welcome in some of the more repressive corners of the world. But on balance the system has minimal interest in journalism or public affairs except for that which serves the business and upper-middle classes, and it privileges just a few lucrative genres that it can do quite well--like sports, light entertainment and action movies--over other fare. Even at its best the entire system is saturated by a hyper- commercialism, a veritable commercial carpetbombing of every aspect of human life. As the C.E.O. of Westinghouse put it (Advertising Age, 2/3/97), "We are here to serve advertisers. That is our raison d'etre."

Some once posited that the rise of the Internet would eliminate the monopoly power of the global media giants. Such talk has declined recently as the largest media, telecommunication and computer firms have done everything within their immense powers to colonize the Internet, or at least neutralize its threat. The global media cartel may be evolving into a global communication cartel.

But the entire global media and communication system is still influx. While we are probably not too far from crystallization, there will likely be considerable merger and joint venture activity in the coming years. Indeed, by the time you read this, there may already be some shifts in who owns what or whom.

What is tragic is that this entire process of global media concentration has taken place with little public debate, especially in the U.S., despite the clear implications for politics and culture. After World War II, the Allies restricted media concentration in occupied Germany and Japan because they noted that such concentration promoted anti-democratic, even fascist, political cultures. It may be time for the United States and everyone else to take a dose of that medicine. But for that to happen will require concerted effort to educate and organize people around media issues. That is the task before us.

WHO IS MANIPURI?

India is gographically, culturally, socially diverse country. We have Gujaratis, Marathis, Punjabis,Biharis, Malyalis,Madrassi or Assamese to name but a few. But the collective noun which represents and presents all the citizens of India is "THE INDIAN"( You have to refer your NCERT History book to remind how INDIA as nation was formed). No matter who you are, which state you belong to, you'll be branded and honoured as an INDIAN. Similarly, all the bonafide residents of MANIPUR(aboriginal) will be collectively known as MANIPURI. No matter, whether you are a KUKI, or so-called NAGA, PANGAL(Muslims in MAnipur) or MEITIE or an Adoptee HINDU, you are a MANIPURI if you are the aboriginals( But there is difficulty in classifying aboriginals).MANIPURI is not a mere NOMENCLATURE that represents only MEITEIS or HINDU-adopted-MEITIES. It is a GENERIC name that encompasses all the bonafide residents of MANIPUR. IT also sings the same tune as the word INDIAN hums.

As far as MAYANGS are concerned, they are those group of people who have been migrated from different parts of the nation to Manipur, but again they may come from deifferent religions or from different states. Whatever it is! we dont need to have an IDENTITY CRISIS. Whosoever you are, wheresoever from you are, if you are a citizen of the nation, then dont forget you are an INDIAN.

MEITEI AND MANIPURI are the synonymous terms in Manipuri vocabulary. Meitei refers to the name of the original valley inhabitants of Manipur. Among all different communities, Meiteis are the majority and whose language is the only channel of communication amongst different ethnic groups in the state.

And, in the Indian literature too, both the state inhabitants and the state language are known as Manipuri. Therefore, sometimes, this majority ethnic group, the Meiteis, are mistaken or misunderstood as the only Manipuris.

For our better understanding there was no such group of people known as Manipuri in the history of Manipur or elsewhere in the world. The concept of Manipuri refers to both the state language [Meiteilon] and the state people irrespective of Meiteis, Kukis, Nagas and others born in Manipur. In this manner, Meitei is Meitei, Naga is Naga, Kuki is Kuki and so on.The Manipuri literature, Manipuri dance, Manipuri language etc. are the constitutional reference terms which are meant for all items of the Manipuri soil.
